Second Round of H1N1 Clinic
Wednesday, February 3rd
4:00 to 6:30p.m.
On Wednesday, February 3, 2010 Ranger Schools’s clinic for second doses of H1N1 flu vaccine will take place at Ranger School. The clinic will run from 4pm until 6:30pm. Only Ranger School students who were younger than 10 years of age at the time of our H1N1 flu vaccination clinic in the fall can be vaccinated at this upcoming clinic. Children who were older than 10 years of age at the time of our fall clinic do not need second doses of H1N1 flu vaccine.
Our clinic for second doses of H1N1 flu vaccine will be very similar to the clinic that we held in the fall. In awaiting this second clinic, please keep these important facts in mind:
H1 H1N1 flu is a potentially dangerous virus and experts expect to see another surge of H1N1 flu in the coming months.
Sd Second doses of H1N1 flu vaccine are important for children who are younger than 10 years of age. First doses only provide many young children with partial immunity.
Children who received H1N1 flu vaccine at our first clinic are already registered to receive second doses at our second clinic. You do not need to sign additional consent forms. If your child has already received the second dose, please notify Mrs. Sweeney so she can pull his/her chart..
You should have already received a copy of responses to many frequently asked questions regarding school-based clinics for second doses of H1N1 flu vaccine. If you have any additional questions about H1N1 flu and school-based clinics for second doses of H1N1 flu vaccine, you can contact the Rhode Island Department of Health’s H1N1 Information Line at (401) 222-8022 or write to H1N1@health.ri.gov.
We are requesting the following schedule be followed whenever possible:
Kindergarten and Grade 1 between 4:00 and 5:00
Grades 2, 3, and 4 after 5:00
You will also be notified by phone by the Connect-Ed system the week of the clinic.
With your continued support we look forward to another successful H1N1 vaccination clinic and to limiting illness-related absences this year.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COMING
TO SCHOOL ON TIME
The same way we, as adults, feel better able to face our workday when we arrive at work on time, children are more able to face their day when they arrive at school on time. Things happen in those first few minutes of the day that help children feel prepared, and part of their class. If they miss these minutes, they are playing “catch up” all day. In addition, the teacher needs to stop morning lessons for the rest of the class in order to accommodate the late student.
Children who are chronically late can be seen as “different” by the other children in the class, and not a part of the morning routine. In fact, if they require the teacher’s time away from routine tasks to help them “catch up”, their fellow students may view them as being less capable.
What happens in the first 5-15 minutes of the school day?
Children put away their jackets and backpacks. / Children organize their school materials for the day.
Children choose their lunches/milk and list attendance. / The teacher makes announcements for the class.
The principal makes announcements for the school./ Children pass in their homework from the previous day.
Children begin their morning work, such as Math Message.
Help Needed to Automate the Library
Our Librarian, Mrs. Jillian Waugh, is presently looking for volunteers to assist her in automating the Library. The main job is data entry. Mrs. Waugh can train interested participant on Wednesdays between 9:00 and 10:45. Once someone is trained you can come in any time that fits your schedule. Please contact the office if you are interested.
Lost and Found
We recently displayed the numerous items that have been placed in the Lost and Found since September. This went on for a week with daily reminders to students to claim anything they recognize. All remaining items were given to goodwill. Parents are asked to please label items whenever possible. This is especially true of lunch bags as we had 4 bags with no names that were not claimed.
